Cell phones have dominated 2-way communication for several years.  However, a forgotten technology has hung on and caught up with the times.  Now is a good time to revisit walkie-talkies, now called 2-way radios.  They may have been invented for military applications during World War 2, but these days there are many good reasons to have them around. 2-way radio equipment has improved and brought down the prices to the point where good units can be found in the range of $50 to $75 for a pair.
