When left alone, plants will simply grow and try to out compete rivals for a chance to reproduce and continue the life cycle. Garden plants will attempt to do the same thing, but unlike wild plants, domestic plants can be manipulated to an extent to increase output.

To a plant, light is life. Without the proper amount of light, the plant will not grow or its growth will be stunted severely. For outdoor plants, keep in mind where to plant, for instance, shaded plants may need to be planted against a wall to allow for partial shade during the day. Indoor or greenhouse plants may require artificial lighting that will best enhance growth, such as an LED grow light.

Another way to increase garden fruiting and branching is to clip off the apical meristem. The meristem is the region where the plant is actively growing, and it will hinder axillary branches from growing. To find the meristem, follow the stump or stem of the plant upwards until the top is reached. The meristem will be at the tip, and will mostly be quite small. Use pruning shears to cut about one centimeter of the tip of the plant. Within a few days, the axillary buds will sprout and grow. As these new branches grow, clip away any dead branch to help keep the plant healthy and ready for fruiting.

Finally, keep plants hydrated and full of nutrients. Water is used for respiration in plants, while the nutrients aid in growth. Different garden species will require different amounts of water. Spray the plants in a gentle rain-like motion in the late evenings to aid in water absorption of the soil. Fertilize plants will commercial soil, or with a liquid fertilizer which can be mixed with water to spray on the plants.
