Shopping For Teal Decoys
The North American Green Winged Teal, simply known as the Teal, is a widespread type of duck that can be hunted in many parts of North America. There are a number of tools and techniques that a duck hunter can use to increase the success of his or her hunt for Teal and other ducks. Decoys are a great method that works for many hunters and a great addition to your duck hunting equipment.
Teal decoys are constructed to look exactly like a live Teal, in order to draw birds into shooting range. The Teal is one of the smallest ducks in the world, which makes the decoys also small and easy to carry. One can purchase male or female decoys or a combination of both. Female decoys mimic the female Mallard-like plumage of an actual Teal. The mottled brown feathers can often be hard to distinguish from those of a female Mallard, so it is important that a hunter be able to tell the difference, depending on the hunting rules of their specific area. Male Teal have a brown head with a wide teal colored stripe that runs over the eye and to the back of the head. The body plumage is brown, gray, and black. When it is not mating season, the coloring of the males sometimes fades, and the body feathers look similar to that of the female.
Since Teal nest on land, one can purchase both water and land decoys and use a combination of the two. When purchasing decoys for water use, it is important that the hunter check and make sure they are created for use in water. A hunter can expect to spend anywhere from twenty to ninety dollars depending on the quality of teal decoys for sale and the retailer from which it was purchased. Many hunting and outdoor adventure retailers will sell duck decoys, including Teal decoys.
